With over nine hundred employees and six manufacturing plants located in North America, at Hollander, we take pride in the fact that not only are we the leader in basic bedding, but our products are manufactured right here in the United States and Canada. We’ve built on our rich history to develop a world class brand that is a trusted and recognized partner for today’s leading retailers. At the core of Hollander’s DNA is deep experience in the textiles industry, from global sourcing to operations, design, and manufacturing. While Hollander has proudly designed and developed our own equipment, much of the manufacturing process lies in the hands of highly skilled Hollander associates. Our team of manufacturing associates is composed of dedicated and industry professionals who have years of experience, which extends into our plants, where our versatile workforce is trained on all facets of production, ensuring that they are able to keep our focus on quality and meet the needs and expectations of our clients’ various custom orders. Hollander’s process starts with the arrival of many different materials carefully selected from our suppliers, including bales of feathers and down, and a variety of polyester fibers. Our polyester fibers must meet Hollander’s specifications, and are tested regularly by independent laboratories. Feathers and down are treated and cleaned, and must pass vigorous standards for quality and cleanliness before being shipped to our factories to be used in the manufacturing of our finished products. The bales of feathers are taken to our natural fill production line, where they are loaded into a specially designed mixing box that aerates and refluffs the feathers. Each pillow and comforter is individually filled. From there, once the pillows and comforters are filled, each is weighed to ensure consistent quality. Once the item is filled and the opening sewn, it is then blown off and fully inspected before final packaging. This carton will be scanned into our inventory system, and then moved into the warehouse area. Once staged in the warehouse, the item is loaded onto a delivery truck that gets products into the hands of our retail partners. In addition to the feather and down processes, Hollander has the largest capacity in North America of blown polyester fiber production lines. To begin the process, fiber is loaded into a machine specially designed to process fiber before it is blown into the pillow shell. Pillows are filled and weighed to ensure consistent quality before moving along in the process. After the pillow is completely filled and meets our weight guidelines, it is then passed on to the sewer, who neatly sews close the opening of the pillow. The pillow is then blown off to remove any excess fiber and fully inspected for quality before being bagged. Once bagged, the pillow is then heat sealed and compressed for shipment. It is then packed and onto the warehouse area. From feather and down and cluster puff fibers, we move on to our garnet department. This fiber is processed by going through a carding or combing process that is achieved by a series of high speed rollers that process the polyester fibers into a pillow batting. Once the bat is formed, the pillow travels up a pillow shell. From there, our highly skilled sewing machine operators close the open end. Then the pillow is inspected, bagged, and packed into a shipping carton. Beyond the production lines, our products are staged for shipment directly to each retailer, which is typically within twenty four to forty eight hours after the production process is complete.

A number of years ago, Hollander set some sustainability goals for our company. Our cornerstone goal was zero waste in landfill from our manufacturing facilities. Another goal was cube reduction for our products that we ship to our customers. What we did is we partnered with our corrugate supplier and our own engineers and tried to develop what we felt was the best carton to reduce cube and save corrugate. And we were very pleased with what we came up with. We actually designed a carton that was ergonomically designed for our packers, so it actually made it easier for them to pack the pillows into the carton, and we were able to get more cartons per truckload. We actually save twenty million square feet of corrugate per year out of our manufacturing process, and we took seventeen hundred truckloads off the road for one of our major customers, which was a huge savings. When we did the analysis of our carbon footprint, we found that we saved enough energy to power eighteen hundred homes annually.
